Color Bands of Aspens and PinesIn the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, there are groves of Aspen trees growing in amongst the pine forests which cover most of the mountains up to the tree line (around 11,300 ft.). Because the Aspens share a common root system, they frequently grow in clumps or bands which creates a color banding effect with their yellow/gold leaves contrasting with the dark greens of the pines.
