Colorado Landscapes

From the majestic Rocky Mountains to vast prairies

Colorado Landscape

Colorado is renowned for it's spectacular scenery. In this photo of the Maroon Bells Lake and Maroon Peaks near the ski resort town of Aspen, the frigid waters of Maroon Lake at the foot of the twin Maroon Peaks provide a glass like surface to reflect the mountains looming in the background. This image was captured just before the inevitable winds of the Rocky Mountains would have disturbed the surface of the water. An early autumn dusting of snow just covers the bare stone of the peaks. Although not as diverse in the range of colors found in Oaks and Maples, the Colorado Aspens take on a unique amber tone at this time year. Contrasting with Pines, the aspens provide some interesting banding patterns to enhance the autumn scenery. This area is very accessible from the town of Aspen by traveling west on Rt. 82 and then turning left into Maroon Creek Rd. This area in the National Forest Lands is sometimes closed to all but bus traffic so check first before making this short drive from town.
